“President Donald Trump’s four nuclear-related executive orders signed on May 23, 2025, may ultimately be remembered as the most consequential federal intervention in nuclear energy policy since the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. Taken together, the orders represent far more than a symbolic endorsement of nuclear energy. They established an aggressive, whole-of-government strategy to accelerate advanced nuclear reactor deployment, rebuild the domestic nuclear fuel cycle, reform the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and restore America’s industrial leadership in nuclear technology. One year later, the results are noticeably tangible,” Abrajano wrote.
“What the Trump administration recognized is that advanced nuclear energy is no longer simply an environmental or electricity issue. It is a strategic technology central to industrial competitiveness, AI leadership, national security, and energy resilience. The executive orders created a framework that finally aligns federal policy with that reality.
“The United States is still in the initial stages of this nuclear resurgence, and many implementation challenges remain. Yet the trajectory is unmistakable. Advanced reactor demonstrations are moving forward. HALEU production is scaling domestically. NRC reforms are beginning to shorten timelines. Supply-chain investments are accelerating. And the workforce pipeline is expanding.
“Once again, the United States is behaving like a country serious about leading the global nuclear industry.”
