The decisive action today by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) to approve the Tennessee Valley Authority’s (TVA’s) early site permit (ESP) to build small modular reactors (SMRs) at the Clinch River site and to lay the framework for evolved emergency preparedness zones is a watershed moment for advanced nuclear.
These decisions are a win for nuclear energy innovation and a clear harbinger that the NRC is fully committed to licensing transformation and modernization.
We welcome the resoluteness of these decisions by the Commission and applaud TVA for its success in bringing these actions to fruition.
