USNIC Applauds U.S.-Japan-Republic of Korea Agreement to Advance Small Modular Reactor Deployments

ARLINGTON, Va. — The United States Nuclear Industry Council (USNIC) today applauded a new agreement between the United States, Japan, and the Republic of Korea to strengthen cooperation on deploying small modular reactors (SMRs) internationally. The agreement marks an important step toward expanding access to advanced nuclear energy while supporting energy security and creating new opportunities for industry collaboration.

USNIC supported the effort by working closely with the U.S. Department of State throughout the process, including convening discussions with industry leaders. USNIC President and CEO Todd Abrajano also joined State Department officials in Japan for high-level meetings with government and industry representatives to help advance the initiative.

“Congratulations to the U.S. Department of State, along with our partners in Japan and the Republic of Korea, on reaching this important milestone,” Abrajano said. “This agreement demonstrates the value of close collaboration among trusted allies as we work to expand the deployment of advanced nuclear technologies around the world. By bringing together the strengths of our three nations, this framework will create new opportunities for American industry, strengthen supply chains, attract private investment, and help deliver safe, reliable nuclear energy to countries seeking to meet growing energy demand.”
