USNIC Congratulates Antares Nuclear, BWXT on First Successful Reactor Criticality Milestone Under DOE Reactor Pilot Program

ARLINGTON, Va. — United States Nuclear Industry Council (USNIC) President and CEO Todd Abrajano today congratulated Antares Nuclear on successfully achieving criticality with its Mark-0 reactor at Idaho National Laboratory under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Reactor Pilot Program and recognized BWXT for supplying the TRISO fuel and HALEU processing capabilities that helped enable the milestone.

“Congratulations to the teams at Antares Nuclear, BWXT, DOE’s Office of Nuclear Energy, and Idaho National Laboratory on this historic achievement,”Abrajano said. “The successful criticality demonstration of the Mark-0 reactor is a major step forward for advanced nuclear energy and a powerful example of the momentum building across the U.S. nuclear industry. This milestone will be the first of many as advanced reactor developers move from concept to demonstration and ultimately to deployment, helping strengthen America’s energy security, economic competitiveness, and global nuclear leadership.”
