ARLINGTON, Va. — United States Nuclear Industry Council (USNIC) President and CEO Todd Abrajano released the following statement marking the upcoming one-year anniversary of President Trump’s May 23, 2025 nuclear energy executive orders focused on accelerating advanced reactor deployment, strengthening the domestic nuclear fuel cycle, modernizing the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), and reinforcing America’s global leadership in nuclear energy:
“Over the past year, President Trump's nuclear energy executive orders have helped drive real momentum across the U.S. advanced nuclear industry by accelerating regulatory reform and modernizing the NRC, advancing demonstration projects, strengthening domestic fuel supply capabilities, and reinforcing America’s global nuclear leadership.
“These executive orders helped elevate advanced nuclear energy as a national priority and reinforced the need to rebuild the infrastructure, workforce, and supply chains required to deploy the next generation of nuclear technologies. While important implementation work remains, the progress made over the past year reflects growing recognition that advanced nuclear energy will be critical to U.S. energy security, rising electricity demand, and America’s ability to compete globally against countries like China and Russia.
“USNIC looks forward to continuing to work with policymakers, regulators, and industry stakeholders to ensure these reforms are implemented successfully and continue translating into tangible progress that strengthens America’s nuclear energy leadership in the years ahead.”
Earlier this week, Abrajano authored an op-ed reflecting on the progress made since the executive orders were signed and the role advanced nuclear energy will play in strengthening U.S. energy security and competitiveness.
